Film Review Bhaiyya Ji
Review
Film: Bhaiyya Ji
Rating: 2/5
Viewers have already seen this film's story in 1001 other movies. It's the same old narrative: a politician and his son kill a man, file a false FIR, and then the man's brother takes revenge. This is the simplistic one-line story of this movie. The problem is that the entire film and its story seem to be stuck in the 1970s when such revenge stories were common. Why spend Rs. 35-40 crores on such a story, especially with an actor like Manoj Bajpayee, who has a poor box office record?
This is the same Manoj Bajpayee whose film "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai" was released on May 23, 2023. It was made by Zee Studios and directed by Apurv Singh Karki, who also directed Bhaiyya Ji. "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai" was a very good film. Initially released on OTT, it received a positive response from the public, prompting the makers to release it in theatres.
However, it failed to attract an audience in theatres. This suggests that while people enjoy watching Manoj Bajpayee for free on OTT platforms, they are reluctant to buy tickets to his movies. Another film of his, "Joram," was released a few months ago. Despite receiving four-star reviews from critics, its first-day box office collection was less than 5 lakhs. The director of this film was struggling financially and didn’t have money for basic needs.
Ever since the OTT era began, especially after COVID, people don't like to watch those who once considered themselves superstars for free, such as:
- Varun Dhawan
- Shahid Kapoor
- Vicky Kaushal
- Siddharth Malhotra
- Manoj Bajpayee
- Bobby Deol
- Pankaj Tripathi
- Nawazuddin Siddiqui
- Vivek Oberoi
- Ritesh Deshmukh
- Abhishek Bachchan
- Amit Sadh
- Shreyas Talpade
- Vikrant Massey
- Pratik Gandhi
- Ali Fazal
- Harsh Varrdhan Kpoor
- Jaideep Ahlawat
- Aditya Roy Kapoor
- Darshan Kumar
- Anil Kapoor
This is a long list of actors whose box office value is now zero. If one out of ten films by any of these actors becomes a hit, it will be an exception, and exceptions do not prove the rule.
Acting: Manoj Bajpayee has done a decent job, but action is not his cup of tea. He is completely miscast.
Zoya Hussain has delivered a good performance in the roles alongside Manoj Bajpayee's wife. However, good acting alone doesn't make a good film. Director Apoorv Singh Karki has disappointed badly. He failed to provide good entertainment, hit songs, emotions, romance, etc., in the film, apart from action. And even the action was long, worn out, and felt stale.
Box office
There is no future for such a film at the box office. I don't know why producers make films with such artists for theatres. On OTT platforms, it's good that people can watch for free.
Multiplex viewers will reject this film, and if the makers are thinking that this film would work at B and C centers, then they are dreaming. The thinking of B and C center viewers has also changed. People in UP, Bihar, and villages don't like such films these days.
This film will be a super-duper flop at the box office, and people will wait for it to come on OTT. Even on OTT, it will attract very few viewers.
