Story:
This is the biography of Srikanth Bolla, who was blind since childhood, and how later he first became a first student of USA based MIT institute and then a successful industrialist.
Acting:
Rajkumar Rao has acted very well, and he will definitely receive many awards for his performance in this film. During the shooting, he wore special lenses from morning till evening. Rajkumar spent time amidst blind people and tried to learn their emotions. His speech in the climax is well performed.
Rajkumar Rao's last hit film in 2018 was "Stree". After that, 14 of his films were flops, such as "Love Sonia", "Made in China", "Shimla Mirchi", "Ludo", "Chhalaang". "Judgementall Hai Kya", "The White Tiger", "Roohi", " Hum Do Hamare Do", "Badhai Do", Hit : The First Case, Monica, O My Darling, Bheed etc also failed at the box office. Now, there is no doubt that this film of Srikanth will also be included in this list.
Heroine of the film, Alaya F, has a small but decent role. Jyotika did an amazing job; her role is even bigger than the heroine's. Sharad Kelkar has also provided good support. Jameel Khan, who portrayed APJ Abdul Kalam, the President of India, is an exact copy of Abdul Kalam. The rest of the star cast has also done a commendable job.
Direction
This film was directed by Tushar Hiranandani, whose first film was "Saand Ki Aankh" in 2019. This year, he also directed the web series "Scam 2003". Tushar has certainly succeeded in making a good film. The most challenging aspect is directing a biopic, and he has taken significant cinematic liberties in this film. He himself mentioned this when I asked him. If one does not take such liberties, the film might end up feeling like a documentary.
Story, Screenplay, Dialogues:
The screenplay has been penned by Jagdeep Siddhu and Sumit Purohit. Screenplay in the first half of the film is captivating, keeping the audience engaged. The story takes unexpected turns and twists, which are quite effective. However, the second half feels stretched, like rubber.
There are several negative points as well:
- Why does Rajkumar Rao's character suddenly turn negative?
- Why does he behave rudely with his partner Sharad Kelkar
- Why does he suddenly become egoistic?
- When he is expelled from school in childhood, why doesn't he and his mentor Jyothika fight with the principal?
Music:
The music for the film has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Aditya Dev, and Sachet Parampara. However, the song from the movie "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak," as "Papa Kahte Hain" has been used very well in the film, and you will definitely like it. But the rest of the songs are disappointing and may leave one feeling disheartened.
Editing:
The film's length is 2 hours and 14 minutes. The first half is very good, but the second half is disappointing. The anticipation built in the first half for something good is not fulfilled in the second half. The film becomes quite boring and drags on post interval.
Box Office:
Rajkumar Rao isn't a big box office draw. His performance in this film is good, and the word of mouth for the film will likely be positive.Hence, the elite audience may go to watch the film. However, the issue is that the film lacks entertainment for the general public and doesn't feature any hit music. Moreover, the film isn't a biopic of a national personality.
The character portrayed by Rajkumar Rao is an exceptional case; not every blind person can achieve the heights of Rajkumar Rao. Therefore, it's doubtful that the film will inspire blind people.
With the exception of the 1964 film "Dosti," on blind actor, most films made have been flops. Examples include Nashiruddin Shah's "Sparsh," Akshay Kumar's "Aankhein," Rani Mukherjee's "Black," Madhuri Dixit's "Sangeet" Kajol's "Fanaa," Hrithik Roshan's "Kaabil," Taapsee Pannu's "Blurr," and Sonam Kapoor's film "Blind," among others.
let's see whether film Srikanth becomes a hit at the box office with strong word of mouth or not. By the way, the film had a very poor opening in the morning shows and the first day's collection would be around 2 crore. Srikanth will have to struggle a lot at the box office to achieve good collections.
